Osteopathy is an established medical system that diagnoses and treats the origins of pain, disability and disease. Treatment is aimed at the whole person (body and mind), and uses a hands-on, drug free approach.
Osteopaths recognise that the body’s structure is essential to good health and that the body will remain in good health as long as there is a continuous uninterrupted nerve and blood supply to all its parts.
Any problem in the structure of the body that disturbs the circulation of the blood and nerve supply can affect the body’s own self-healing ability to find good health. Examples may be muscle spasms; joint misalignments; pelvic imbalances; and spinal curvatures. All of these conditions are extremely common and can lead not only to aches and pains in joints, muscles and ligaments, but also disturbances in the internal organs and the way they function.

When you visit an osteopath for the first time a full medical history will be taken followed by a careful examination. The osteopath will use a highly developed sense of touch to identify any points of weakness or excessive strain throughout the body.
Treatment is tailored to the individual and is aimed at gently releasing stresses and strains within the body structure. Thus restoring a state of balance and optimising the body's self healing abilities to find good health, leaving it free from pain, disabilities and disease. The result is often an improvement in many different aspects of health.
